Have you ever thought that someone you know would make a good elder or a good deacon? Your nominating committee would like you, the congregation, to make recommendations. We are looking for servant-hearted leaders who will serve as Elders or Deacons for a three year term of service.
ELDERS
Elders are responsible for the spiritual life of the congregation. They form the governing body of our church and will be called on to form and execute the policies and procedures that are vital to the life of the church. The ministry teams of the elders are: Youth Ministries, Adult Ministries, Church Life, Finance, Mission Outreach and Trustees (Buildings & Grounds).
Elders should be persons of faith, dedication and good judgment. Their manner of life should be a demonstration of the Christian gospel, both within the Church and in the world. Their experience and Christian commitment should qualify them for this type of service.
DEACONS
It is the duty of deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress. They shall assume such other duties as may be delegated to them from time to time by the Session.
The Office of Deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy, witness and service after the example of Jesus Christ. Persons of spiritual character, honest repute, exemplary lives, brotherly and sisterly love, warm sympathies and sound judgment should be chosen for this office.
TO THOSE INDICATED ABOVE, other things to consider as you make your recommendation are:
1. How they function as a Christian in daily life.
2. Personal characteristics, including cooperativeness, team work and team building, openness to new ideas, and ability to follow through on assignments.
