Palm Sunday – March 28, 2010

On Palm Sunday we remember what has been called Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem that occurred only a few days before his crucifixion and resurrection.

The purpose behind the triumphal entry was to communicate that Christ was indeed the promised Messiah, the King of the Jews and by extension, the King of the Universe.

“…A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”  “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”  “Hosanna in the highest!”  When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”  The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”  Matthew 21:8-11

Holy Week starts with the triumphant entry of Jesus!  The music for worship on Palm Sunday is regal and celebratory.  The city of Jerusalem welcomed the “Royal Son of David” and their “Redeemer King”, truly the hope of Israel.  Our worship will join the celebration, as our children process with palms to welcome Jesus.

As we begin Holy Week on Sunday March 28, 2010, we invite you to come and worship with us.
