SERMON SERIES – HABAKKUK IN THE NEW TESTAMENT
This Fall we will spent six weeks on a little known book of the Old Testament entitled “Habakkuk.” Habakkuk is considered one of the “minor prophets” as the book is short. However, the content of the book is deep and widely applicable to our lives. This series covered what it means to live by faith in the midst of troubled times. Here’s the ground we’ve covered so far:
- September 12 – The Collision of Faith and Life (Habakkuk 1:1-5)
- September 19 – Why Does God Do Nothing? (Habakkuk 1:1-17)
- September 26 – Waiting and Living by Faith (Habakkuk 2:1-4)
- October 3 – The Culture of Pride (Habakkuk 2:5-20)
- October 10 – Generosity in Scarcity (Habakkuk 3:17-19)
- October 24 – Rejoicing in Tribulation (Habakkuk 3:1-19)
Now, we’re going to spend the next three weeks looking at the presence of Habakkuk in the New Testament witness, particularly in reference to the great passage of Habakkuk 2:4 – “the righteous will live by faith.” We will now look at how important this verse was for Paul and the author of Hebrews as they communicated their new faith in Jesus Christ.
- October 31 – Living by bold faith (Romans 1)
- November 7 – Living by humble faith (Galatians 3)
- November 14 – Living by persevering faith (Hebrews 10)
